COVID-19 hasn’t stopped Eagle Creek Elementary students from spreading kindness during this challenging time. Last month, six students from Eagle Creek’s Respect Team and their families handed out kindness messages in the Arlington community that were made during the Great Kindness Challenge earlier this year. The students were not able to hand out the messages last school year due to schools being closed because of the pandemic.
“The Respect Team noticed everyone was feeling heavy with emotions and wanted to do something positive,” said Colene Jablonski, Eagle Creek’s School Counselor. “They wanted to be leaders and make a positive impact. So they used the resources they had and decided to represent their student body and share kindness with the community during this burdensome time. They wanted to give the community a lift; a reminder that kindness lives in each of us and that we need to reach out to each other. The participating students also lifted their spirits and brought their families together by doing kind acts as a family.”
“It was very fun and interesting,” said Eagle Creek Elementary fifth grader, Kyrah Meyer. “It makes you happy on the inside to spread kindness.”
Despite the pandemic, the Respect Team has been planning a virtual holiday assembly and how they’re going to implement the 2021 Great Kindness Challenge at their school. Eagle Creek has been participating in the Great Kindness Challenge since 2017. It is a world event that covers more than 110 countries.
